A couple of weeks ago, I took a road trip to the country. With about an hour drive left, I couldn’t find a decent radio station and was forced to play one of the few CDs left in my car—a mix CD I’d made around 2004. Surprisingly, I found myself cheesin’ big and bobbing my head hard to the beat as I listened to a few forgotten songs that had once been the soundtrack to my life. Keith Murray, Missy Elliot, Jadakiss, Timbaland, Ms. Jade, and AZ all blasted through my speakers as I journeyed to my destination. The CD made me reminiscent. It made me miss a certain sound that’s now absent from hip hop. It made me fiend an album from a few hip hop greats who have been quiet for way too long.
