Labels are busy in trying shut down whatever they can as they keep blaming the “internet” for the dropping sales but in my opinion there are a lot of other forces that cause this business to falter.

Whoever said: “All promotion is good promotions” is a lie! There is a thing as over promoting and doing it plain wrong and majority of independent artists fall into the second category. The problem that I have is that too many artists feel like that they “know” what it takes to promote a record or even run a record or production company. Don’t get it twisted this shit takes expertise just like any other occupation. Just because you can use Facebook, Twitter, etc doesn’t mean you are doing it right.

Let me just start off what was and what is now. Promoters before of the impact of Social Networking and the internet had to be really innovative in getting the word out. Promoters had to hit the streets and get on the road. Now all people do is just sit at home and send some tweets or post the shit out of other people’s Facebook pages. That is not the way it goes!

The art of marketing and promotions is to make people WANT your shit, you have to create a demand for it but you going on everybody’s page and putting shit up like “My shit is the next hot shit! Trust me!” Really? Are you being serious right now? What if your shit is just complete trash? The trust me shit is for the birds too, I don’t even know your ass! Quit trying to annoy the shit out of me, my Facebook page is my personal shit, I don’t want you coming on everyday posting your shit on my wall. So there you have it, you think you are promoting but in reality you creating an enemy that will never listen to your shit.

You have to be creative and let people CHOOSE to give you a try; if you are constantly in their face you just create anger and hate. The same thing with these parties, I got the first invite, no need to blow my inbox up. You just get blocked or deleted. It is just like Spam, matter of fact it is spam. Post that shit on your wall and if I am interested I will check it out. Otherwise you will just turn people off and nobody gives a shit about what you do or what party you throw.

So be smart and innovative, just because you have access to people don’t piss them off where they block you because you won’t even know that it happened.
